Gear Knobs

My '83 Baur (build date May '82) is cursed with a modern E30 style gear knob. Whether it's original or is someone's update I don't know but I'd like to replace it with something more traditional like the photos below. The first one I believe is a '02/early E21 version.







Any places to look or is it a case of haunting eBay?

Incidently, the parts diagrams show the gearlever containing all sorts of washers & bushes. Presumably they are to absorb vibration. Do they wear out? I was thinking of going to a 1.9 Z3 lever

They do wear out resulting in freeplay.

As for the knob, since your car is a late example you may have a click on knob already and so will you with the Z3 shifter. Older E21 knobs are screw on so they won't fit. But early E30's also had the old style round knobs, there must be a few that are still available.
