Most special BMW you saw in 2012?

Post by Jeroen »

Me?
For me personally, 2012 was a great year and I can only hope 2013 to come close to that. Some great events like the Sharknose Meeting and the celebration of 40 years of BMW M GmbH during the OGP, a great trip to the Alps and Italy, an impressive trip to the Eifel area with the E21 legion. So I can only look back on a great year, and with great BMW memories made. A chat with Adrian van Hooydonk or Marc Surer, wonderful E21 Group 5 action on the tracks... well I can keep going on but I'll spare you my further trips down memory lane. For now

Q: But what was the most special BMW you encountered in 2012?

Glas
For me it was the BMW that's not a BMW. The Glas 2600 V8 Coupé we found at the 2012 Sharknose Meeting. With 317 ever made this is an ultra rare sight and don't you love it for its nickname Glaserati? That name was mainly derived from the fact that the car happens to be designed by Quattroporte designer Frua, but the car also had matching exotic looks and that V8 engine. The original manufacturer of the Goggomobil was purchased by BMW in 1966. By then the 2600 V8 was almost ready for production and it was even superceded by a 3000 V8. In 1968 BMW had its own coupé, the E9, ready for production and the production of the Glas coupés seized. The Glas plant in Dingolfing grew out to BMW's largest BMW factory worldwide and is still operational today.

No one saw anything special in 2012? Even Tommi's E21 wagon conversion wasn't special enough?

Baur limo even! It was not in 2012, but I should have some old pics of a US stretched E21 somewhere as well.
