Race Seats, Seat Belts

Post by DrGonzoPOW »

Ok, so the E21 is getting geared up for the summer. I have gutted it and banged some Cobra seats in....but....i am unsure of what to do with seat belts.
Harnesses would probably be the easiest option but id rather keep the standard belts as it will mainly be used on the road.
The seats have brackets on the sides and had Ford clips and pre tensioners attached. Unfortunately though the BMW belts wont fit into these. So my question is can i use come clips and pre tensioners from another model BMW to bolt to my seats ?? E36, 46 ??? Hope someone knows! Ta

I'd try and use the E21 buckle and bolt in anywhere. Drill the trans tunnel (with a spreader plate) or the seat mounts if there is room to bolt an E21 buckle in there? I'd rather do that than try to bolt a reel from another model, unless they are a straight swap.

Also I would make the effort and use harnesses either way

I think you just need a "buckle" section that bolts to the transmission tunnel and not the seat. I think the part number is 72111852873, but I've never seen one.

I've got a harness installed with the seatbelt style buckle for track days, but I left the original belt in for the benefit of registration inspections and the police.

Mark suggested i use the original seat bolt holes near the transmission tunnel. So ive used the rear seat belt holders/clips and bolted it in with the same bolt that holds my custom seat mount in place. Should do the business without pratting about too much.
