thats the exact article i have saved on my laptop already - plenty of types of faces trying to digest that and calculate it! - i think i have it sussed, i came to the conclusion ill need a minimum of 300mm front brakes if i ever decide to increase the power from 250hp (with a turbo) to 400hp. (which is why my brake assembly had to go - to make room in case i go through with it)

I went to ultimate dubs the other day and they VW crowd love a bit of engine bay smoothing - some of them take it too far man.. like removing window wipers and the heating!?

I'll be removing the ugly seam sealer - hiding wires, removing fuse box, and plenty of braided hose and polish up everything i can type of stuff.. its all in the details..

Just going through the same process. Obviously want minimal clutter whilst keeping it usable. I doubt it'll go as far as some of the VW guys though.

Looking good Mark, everyone's engine bays are looking very trim.

I found the brembo discs ds2500 pads and brembo 4 pots plenty good enough on the rs, it was just over 300bhp and 1175 kg. could make the michelin ps3's chirp easy on a sunny day.

Nas, what discs you planning on using to get 300mm?

BMW E38 728i discs are 316mm and 28mm thick, they are recessed by 70mm so a lot easier to fit big calipers if you have 0et wheels but will need re-drilled to 4x100 from 5x120 and a spigot made to centre.
BMW E38 740i are 324mm x 30mm recessed by 70mm as well.
you will only have 3.138mm clearance from the center diameter to the edge of the 4x100 14.65 dia stud hole tho, but for £92-£99 brembo discs delivered i wont be complaining.

hi mate - i see you been hard at work lookng at brakes. Ive never had a car stop better than the rx7 fd3s i had, it was like hitting brick walls but i did have very wide tyres..

on my e21 i would need to keep my 15" splitties (because someone got lucky on ebay with 16" image wheels i wanted!) this is also why my limit is 300mm (i measured the inside of my rims) and the fd3s calipers can take a max of 22mm brake disk thickness. I spent hours on apecs website using the search function and the actuall best disk to use is the fd3s rx7 front brake disk.

294mm x 22mm
67mm disk height
center bore is 72mm (so bags of room for 4x100 to be drilled in and a 9mm spigot ring)
best part only £44 each!

e21 disk is

255mm x 22mm
75mm disk height
center bore 63mm
probably about 60 quid a pair?

Alternative I heard about is this one: 294x22mm from R56 Cooper S? Should be almost straight fit, lug pattern should be the same only the center hole needs to be a little bit larger?

These Forged Superlite's with the same 1.38" pistons as the Powerlite's. Keeps the hydraulic bias but with a much bigger pad:

Guess I should mention, I've already got the calipers and pads allready. My plan was to get my mate to laser cut out some steel rings 79mm x <63mm to press fit onto the hubs. Discs as you say will need redrilling for 4x100 (ø14.5mm).

I'm not near my car to check the retaining screw position and dimensions. Does anyone have that info?
From my searching I've found its 45° between the studs and on a 92mm PCD with 11.5mm counterbore & 8.5mm ID.

Planning on test fitting and taking pics of the conversion over the Easter weekend. Also going to try fitting the E30 rear calipers.

For Camaro Racecar running 15 inch wheels we have the following sizes from HiSpec:


"11.75" X 1.25" (298.5 mm x 31.8 mm/7”/8 ) cast iron curved vane grooved vented disc 7" PCD 8 Bolts fix bell to disc Willwood unit HI Spec discs ref 3619 or job no 1232 grooved and made to Willwood specification (01322 286850). Drilled are no good as they weaken the discs".

These have 5 stud fixings - but iof ineterest is the max size under small 15 inch wheels- 11 3/4 inch was the original size! -

Butch has more than 550bhp and weighs 1355 kgs

hi spec do an e21 kit.

its about 700 quid or so.

Only problem with Hi-Spec is you need 16'' rims or bigger. They don't have a great reputation either, although have had no dealings personally.
