what colour are the wires hard to tell from the picture.

do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn ignition on?
have you cleaned the earth points?
In fact does the engine starter turn?

Feel like a complete knob. Got the engine started.

Tried charging the battery for an hour with the thought it would be charged. Found out that it is completely flat and will not hold power.
Everythings turning fine, idling at around 1500rpm. Don't know if thats good or not for a car that hasnt been started for 2 years.

Can anyone help me with a timing belt question? I've heard they are notorious for snapping when idling, just checking if anyones had that problem before.
I would rather not mangle the insides to this car.

Btw cheers Nas80 for replying so quick. Will post a video of it running sometime soon

Cheers,

Max

As i can see it seems that you have an E21 which original had an EGR system on the engine.

The black box which is mounted has a connection with the otherside where the ignitionregulator is i think?

The wire looks like it is from one of the solenoidvalves which are originaly mounted there.

Read the bottom if too muddled or confusing to understand. My grammar may not be at its best

So that was a complete mix up.
Figured out the car will start as my last post said. I've now had moving around my garage doing 3 point turns to see how everything works. FIrst few times it ticked over it was idling around 1000rpm then stalling, after a few more attempts it started idling around 1500-2000rpm and staying in the range constantly. When it was switched into gear like 12DR (automatic gearbox) it fell to 500-1000rpm and sounded as if it had a very lumpy cam ahha

I have a drive way that is like a right-left-left down into the garage, which is really steep. Enough to struggle running up.
Maybe it wasnt the smartest thing to do at this point but I had to get the car up to the top of this to then tow it up to the street (I also live at the end of a big battleaxe driveway) and have put it on a trailer and take it to a garage.

Its a big garage, the previous owner who built the house collected 1960-70 Jags/Mercedes and had about 4 in total which he also rebuilt a V12 engine from all original Jag parts to swap into the E-type he had. He also had a car hoist in there. Very luckily he didnt have anywhere for the hoist when he moved so he decided to leave it there.

I let the engine heat up a bit with a few more manoeuvres around in the garage and decided it was running smoothly enough to give it a run up the mountain ahead. When I say smoothly I mean that it wasnt shaking the car,

Sorry to keep back peddling. Just a list of a few things completed just before this did the run:
Radiator off - reattached - filled back up with coolant - leaks from the top just below the large hose running back to the engine
Engine oil drained - refilled
Oil filter - replaced and properly sealed
All hoses and loose ends accounted for and properly fitted

Once it had warmed up slightly I gave it about a 10m run and went up the incline. Going up I had it in first and it was sitting around 4000-5000rpm till I got right to the top where it was struggling so I decided to change up. From there I didnt have enough space to get going so I pushed on the brakes as hard as possible (they need bleeding desperately) and engaged the handbrake putting it back in park.

From the 30m journey up the incline the oil (which on the temperature gauge it was saying was on 1 bar when I started at the bottom) had risen to just above half way which I know just isn't right after such a short journey. At that point I shut off the engine as it was smoking from the exhaust manifolds and the coolant had started to boil over. I left it for a few minutes and tried to start it again with no success and then had to tow it further to get it into a good position to store it for the night.

About an hour later I started it again once everything was left to settle. Now it is running a lot rougher than before actually shaking the car...little worried

Too long didnt read:
Car started after 2 years
New Oil/filter/coolant
Ran quite roughly first few goes
Became much better
Idle in P - 1000rpm
D - 500rpm
Had to climb up huge driveway
Start -- 1 quarter temp
1 - 4500rpm highest
2 - 3500rpm
End (30m up very steep drive) -- above half way
Stopped and parked.
Will not restart within next 10 mins
Started an hour later with it running very roughly with whole car shaking from side to side
Shut off car

Anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be?
Just learning about all of this so sorry if its a simple solution.

Cheers,
Max
