Hi,my e21 has a power steering rack which is leaking badly, what are my options? Is there a seal kit which i can buy to repair the rack and how difficult is this to do?
Another option would be to possibly buy a reconditioned manual rack and remove servo pump, although i would like to keep the power steering if possible!
Advice and opinions apreciated,Thanks
Turlough.

Re: 320/6 power steering rack leak, options?
theres a number of powersteering refurbishment places advertising on google... if you want to tackle it yourself your best off speaking to the dealer and seeing if there is a seal kit..

I looked at having mine reconditioned and was quoted
£95 by my local parts supplier.

So your local supplier must have had no problem in getting a seal kit for the rack despite the rarity of the e21 now?jimbob wrote:I looked at having mine reconditioned and was quoted

I see that wallothnesch.com have a seal kit listed on their stock list, ive also found a local steering rack recon place online.I will call them tomorrow.Between both i should be able to get the rack sorted. Thanks for the input.
Has anyone else had to get their rack reconditioned or replaced?

Yes,will do,cheers. i dont mind removing the rack from the car but id rather let a specialist refurb the unit, although its probably just a couple of pressed in oil seals, one each end.nas80 wrote:theres a number of powersteering refurbishment places advertising on google... if you want to tackle it yourself your best off speaking to the dealer and seeing if there is a seal kit..
