e21 Seat Options

Post by KeithM5 »

I have been looking at replacing the front seats in my e21 and am considering some nice sports seats. My local breaker has some nice recaro style half leathers in a Rover 45/MG equivalent, nice order and only £30. Does anyone know if these can be made to fit an e21?

If these aren't suitable, does anyone know what else might fit?

If they're narrow enough they can probably be persuaded to fit. Just be aware of the seat height too though. E30 sports seats can be made to fit but they sit an inch or two higher than genuine e21 seats and feel a bit odd.

Almost all recaro´s back in the day was the same. This include the Opel Manta´s, Kadett´s, Ford Capri, Audi Coupe´s etc .. They are very narrow and with a bit of tinkering using the original seat frame i have made theese seats fit in alot of cars, from a Fiat 127 to a VW Derby. I am not so sure about the MG seats though.. They are quite new i recon and therefore they could be specially made for the car and this can present issues when trying to combine with a simple subframe ?

I would propably try to go for some retro recaros like theese (or similar) from a early Manta B series car (they are so cool and the checkered fabric is very retro i think) :

Personally i would love to try out a set of old Porsche 924 seats at some point, i have heard that they are very easy to convert to almost any car :)

The height would be a real issue for me, I like to sit as low as possible. I'll stick with the standard seats until I can find something more suitable

If you haven´t been sitting in a Opel Manta or a Porsche 924 how can you then assume that the seats will cause problems ? In both cars you are extremly low seated so i suggest you rethink it.

I picked up a pair of really nice seats from, of all things, a Hyundi (sp) Coupe ! Not for the E21 but they are nice and narrow. Ive disconnected the airbag tho !

It's not the seats that might be the issue, it's the way they mount in an e21. You can get them lower but you'll be needing to look at removal of the staggered metal mounts.

Correctly but in any case E21 or not when using seats from another car you will need to make your own subframes qed you can adjust the height to fit to your liking :)
