Got a few little bits sorted tonight:

Paint stripped the horn:

Started sifting through the various bags of bits for the car, this isn't even all of them either:

Lower grilles cleaned up and painted black.

Yeah I've tried everything from Halfords own brand to this that and the other, and always, Plastikote comes out on top for coverage and finish.

As rattle cans go, it's the best IMO.

I had great intentions that this would be an awesome weekend of progress on the BMW, unfortunately I only got anything done on it today :(

Bought the headlining material from Segals in Salford, awesome place tbh, more choice than you could ever need! I'll get some pictures of that tomorrow.

Actual progress;

Started recovering the loom, the old tape is all dry and crusty and really needs replacing, so I'll redo the whole loom.

Decided to get the front end on too.

Looking goofy:

More Plastikote Satin:

And finally, my debumpered E21 :)

As I expected, I love it! It harks back to the 2002 in so many ways, and really accentuates that sharknose!

So excited to get it finished now!

Omg that thing is just clean ! Love the front valance you have made, love the colour, love everything about that car, and what an amazin eye for details. It takes alot of selfcontraint to spent the time at this fase of a car build to clean and perfect all the small parts that needs to go back on. Most just throw it on the car as they cant wait (and who can blame them :) )

So a very big thumbs up from me, absolutely amazing work !

Yep, the devil is in the detail, so making sure the small things are right, improves the big picture.

I'm sure I will have overlooked something though, it won't be perfect when it's finished, but actual perfection is subjective anyway :)

As promised, some photos of the headlining.

It's quite difficult to capture the colour and texture, but you get the idea. It's a foam backed nylon material in a charcoal shade.

Will start making it soon, using my old headlining as a template.

Got a few bits done this weekend, including some seam sealer on the repairs:

Image

Image

I noticed that the sealer had cracked on the upright repair, anyone know why this would happen?

Image

Arches undersealed:

Yesterday I noticed that the sill on the drivers side has been damaged:

Image

No idea how that has happened, but obviously I was pretty gutted.

Fortunately Lee gave me the rest of the tin of paint used to respray the car, so I got a modelers brush out, and touched it in.

Image

Image

Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than it was.

Random shot:

Image

Also, picked up my upgraded front end.

All of this has been kindly donated to my by the lads on here, I have to say I've been massively humbled by their generosity, cannot thank Mark, Jamie, Nas & Arshad enough, really is appreciated :-)

Spec:

- 323i ARB
- Series 2 control arms
- Stongflex polybushes

Image

Gave the ARB a hit with the wire wheel and some white spirit and gave it a fresh coat of paint.

Image

A good weekend in all, coilovers should be soon, and I need to chase up the status on my wheels.

I think the sealer crack cause the worn surface under it. I always using one component poliurethane, and never had problem with that, maybe the sealer itself cause the problem. Hope this helps.

Sealer cracks like that if you slap it on thick, outside dries to a skin before the inside does, then as the inside shrinks down the crust cracks. Let it dry off then seal the cracks with more sealant. Alternatively scrape it off and redo it but in a thinner layer.
