Turn signals don't work

Post by ians320is »

Hi everybody I just purchased my first BMW a 1983 320is. I'm having problems with the turn signals. When you activate them nothing happens. No indicator on the dash comes on, and the lights don't come on. Could the actual turn signal switch be bad? Is it a relay or a fuse? Also I need a couple interior pieces, if you know where I could get some please let me know. thank you, Ian

There are fuses under the hood. Even if they look good, take them out and clean the connections. (they corrode and break connection) Also, the hazard switches can fail and you'll lose turn signals then too.

I'm betting it'll be either of those things.

I checked all the fuses, replaced the one for the hazards but they still don't work. What are the hazard switches, do you mean the one on the dash or something else? However that did fix the dome light, dash clock, and the warning buzzer. Which is very annoying, does anyone know to to disconnect the door buzzer? Or where it's located?

Yes, I mean the red button on the dash. Many circuits go through that switch and as it fails, it can cause problems.

You'll have to trace the sound from the buzzer and disconnect it. It's not a factory part - well not here anyway.

That totally makes sense, the switch itself is broken I can see that being the whole issue. Thank you very much

Then that is the cause indeed. There is a fix for these things in our top tech topics section:
