Guys,
can the earlier e30 323' engine & gearbox go straight in to a e21 323 shell without too much effort?

Any m20 will go in, so long as you have the 6 cylinder front subframe.

You have to find a way to make the speedo or tacho work though.
It's different from e21 to e30. I forget whether it's speedo or tacho, and what the difference is. If you stick with the e21 gearbox and e30 engine you'll be fine.
Also, other people have installed e30 speedo/tachos in e21s.

E21 speedo is driven through the gearbox, the E30 speedo throught the diff. So when using the E30 box on a E21 you need to make the speedo work. E30 diff is hard to fit to an E21.

You can get your speedo converted to work like the e30 one, for around £140.
