As above basically, I'm not with the car at the moment and want to order some speakers for the OEM positions in the front footwell, and on the parcel shelf.
Was just wondering if anyone knows the size I need, as I can't measure them
Car is a 1977 316, so series 1 (don't know if that makes any odds, but I've learnt the hard way that things can be different).
They're 6x4" speakers, but from what I hear, you have to be careful that the magnet is not too big as there isn't much space behind the hole. Also, they can't stick out too far (eg. tweeters in the middle) or the glovebox will hit them. I've only replaced my rear ones (also 6x4") for that reason.
I have some Infinity ones at the back (hidden behind the old skool speaker covers) and Alpines at the front. As JLS pointed out you have to be careful that the magnets aren't too big as they won't fit. One of mine is actually out of the car. I'm back on Thursday so happy to send a pic or you can see for yourself.
Krispy Kremes my new office for a while
Mark - do you know the exact model of JBLs that you have? There are quite a few in that size. If you know these particular ones fit, I might actually get some soon.
Are harness adapters available for an aftermarket radio install as I would hate to cut into the harness. If none are available can anyone lead me somewhere where I can figure out which wire does what? I may butcher a junkyard radio to make a harness adapter if I need to.
The hertz 6x4s are night and day better than the other pal. Come and see what in up to with mine. It's mid sound quality transformation. As usual it's got completely out of hand and way over budget. Don't buy anything yet as 6x4s will never sound amazing
And if your after a amp I have an old school mint condition sq comp xtant 4 channel amp spare you could buy ( and a matching mono one if you wanted a sub
My ice install consists of jl 6x9s on a custom made rear shelf 6x4 jl in the footwells and jl tweeters on the mirror plates running a 12 inch vibe sub in the boot running off a kenwood 250watt amp and if I don't mind saying so myself sounds awesome the trouble with any ice install is unless you start cutting stupid holes everywhere you are limited to what size speakers you can use ill post some pics of my install in the next few days.
