323i drop

Post by Heinrich »

Hi,
Newbe here...

Got this genuine 323i and really don't want to change it a lot. The shocks are from the factory and I think it must be about time to change them :) When I am at it, I would like to lower the car. I would like to drop it so that there is no space between the wheels and the fenders. Any one who can recommend some springs? I want it to be the same lowering in the rear as in the front.

Greetings from Denmark :P

BTW: How do I upload a picture?

Hi,

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Check out the FAQ http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=38
and search this site. There are loads of threads on lowering springs.

Im on a poison elf 60/60 drop, they were very cheap springs and ride great.

They do a 60/40 kit which would have your car sitting flat. But if you wanna go lower id say get coilovers

Thanks a lot. I will defo go for this kit. Is it right that all models use same springs? Thought they were different on the 320/323i than on the 4-cyl models...Can you please post a picture of your car?

Possibly but the thing to remember is 6 cylinder engines are bigger and heavier so the springs are stiffer. 4 cylinder springs are softer, if you ut 6 banger springs on a 4 cylinder its not going to sit as low because the weight isnt there

This was my car the day I did it on the 60/60, since then its dropped a bit more

Thanks for the post. Seems logic and after a second thought I don't think I will go lower than 40mm. Maybe it is just a feeling I have or course of different wheels, but it feels that the 323 is heavier in the nose than the 320. Is i quite a lot harder to steer when going slow. I am afraid that it will be too low after all. Don't want to do the work twice. Things tempt to not getting better by beeing taken apart too often :-)

Thanks :-)

Bought it in Holland a couple of weeks ago. I want to sell one of my E21 (just can't decide which one) course I need space and my dream and hope is that I one day will find this really really mint 323i or 323i Baur like the silver one in "Owners Gallery - Lars Nord". One that is with the factory painting and all. Know it is hard but some day it will turn up - at least I hope :-) I will post pictures some day I am on the computer and not the smart phone.

Best regards and have a nice day :-)

The front sits naturally higher anyway which pisses me off

Also bare in mind that the 6 cylinder springs are STIFFER to deal with the added weight of the bigger engine. Im currently trying to figure out how to get my front end lower. Possibly going to shorten the struts
