Post by Irish_chris »

Anybody know what engine mounts I would need to use to drop an m51 into my 318 e21?

Thanks

Ok depends on if you got the 6cyl front subframe. I take it your getting rid of the standard brake system?

Standard 4cyl subframe

Yes brakes are being gutted because of clearance issues among other reasons

No one i know has done this swap. Post a pic of your lower half engine block. Also what box u running. Your more than likely going to end up with custom mounts mate. Its a lot easier eith a 6cyl subframe

I seem to be the first which has its ups and downs

I have a 4 speed 323 box to use for now

What are my options with a 6 cyl subframe?

For the e30 it requires e36 arms and e28 m5 rubber mounts I was hoping it would be the same

Ill get a pic when I have the front off the donor car

If u are using an m20 box then you need to twist the linkage mate.

You are running a 4cyl subframe then your going to have to have a think. Because on an e30 thats a different subframe. You could prolly do it the e30 method if you had 6cyl.

Have u got a welder?

You just need a 6cyl all your 4cyl stuff bolts to it.

If you use an m20 box it doesnt sit correct angle with the e36 mounts so you have to bend the gear linkage 10 degrees or so

yeah you might get away with using hockey pucks custom rubber off something else and or cutting the raised side m10 mount off and welding a plate there to make it like the m20 mount 6 cyl frame? either that or just make a mount its not too bad a job to do really.
