Nah not worth the wait or worth a potential cock up. Ill just paint em with rust bullet then spray gloss black

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
some more stuff was done over the weekend.
side by side comparison - still waiting on the rear disks and pads to show up. on the rx7 you get rear vented disks as well and ill need to make brackets for the rear calipers.

I did some welding on this corner because jacking point rust trap. not sure if I should put the plate back on as from now on no one jacks this car up from the sills.. only subframes!

then I welded up my pedal box, because the holes here are not needed now... im no expert welder but im getting better everytime I do some. once I grind em down the welding looks much better :p

filled in the other hole didn't get the new bit level so you can see where I have been, so I will have to skim with filler, which isn't a problem really,

some stuff arrived

theres a limited amount of room on the other side. but theres just about enough to squeeze these bulkhead fittings in. ive got some remote reservoirs to fit in the engine bay but im probably not going to finalise the placement until later as i cant remember how much room is left on the bulkhead when the bonnet is shut

this week, disks are getting redrilled and the brake brackets will be made (ive done the template for the front already) then ill test fit the bias box and make some brake lines up . finish painting underneath the car and then fit the engine and box in.
I still need to make a custom prop, ive done 80% of all the wiring. few brake fittings left to order, and then that should be it for parts.

Top work my man, I would of approached the pedal box the same way, if you want to keep a bit of an oem look use 2/3 clutch reservoirs I think the cap with the fluid sensor for the brake reservoir should swap over

Looking good mate! Some of those brake fittings have traveled further than others...
I've been welding up that "jacking" point on mine this week, came to the same conclusion, the plate stays off and I'll use the subframe for lifting. Great thread btw!
Andd yes, the level sensor cap fits, I've used BMW clutch reservoirs on VW's a few times.

Cheers lads.
I got those universal girling ones with the an4 screw fittings. They are on the big side. But ill change them for cool billet ones when i save up some cash.

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
got a fair bit done over the weekend.
been glorious weather but my garage turns into a really bad sweat box!
started out making a bush for my diff mount.

used an insert from another bush and just cut it down

thatll do it

next issue was that the engine mounts from the e36 dont work like they do on e30s lol. which is a shame so with a little help from Propan (thanks!) he suggested i use the m20 mount on the intake side and then create a new mount on the exhaust side.
cue the blue peter music!!
get your engine in position, measure measure measure, prop it up so it doesnt move using whatever you can find close to hand which your holding it with the other. measure again

i fine tuned the level but here it was at the first guess.

intake side

just cut cardboard and then stick it together and go like so

my welder is basic and cant do 6mm and 5mm steel so i gave it to Aidy (local mobile welder) and he spent an evening creating it for me.
exactamundo lol

wish i could make welds like his

zinc coated and then painted

did some more on the pedal box

i cut the master rods down by about 10/15mm as the pedals were too high

bulkhead fittings er fitted

decided to fit a z3m quick shifter, its not too short and its better than the 328i lever but not stupid.

easy as pie to fit

finally got the engine and box in. no trouble at all fitting it in. and it sits perfect. theres sooo much room either side.

had a test fit of the pedal box,
its gone in perfect although i still need to modify the accelerator pedal to work with my original one. bit of cutting and welding wont be a problem.

tomorrow night's fun will be fitting the rear end.

Before you put it all together permanently so to speak, check the bias bar is moving freely and that the cylinders release fully. I put a new rear circuit cylinder on the slug ages ago, but it was a different make to the original, even though I thought I'd cut the rod the same length it didn't properly release so the circuit just pumped up and locked the brakes up. Took a while to figure out, but no fun being unable to complete the sighting laps or get back up the hill to the paddock at Cadwell! Burning brakes on the track car is bearable, on your garage queen it'll be bad!

yeah I read that the pedal seems must retract all the way after you press the pedal, I think the clevis for the rear needs moving along to the right a few threads. have to get them exact so I still need to mess about, im still missing a few brake fittings..

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
Having lowered my car to rough ride height . I don't think there's enough clearence for the sump.
It sits about an inch n a half / two inch below the subframe. Engine is coming back out. I'm going to get my sump modified.
Rear end was fitted though. That went ok but man it's hard work that e12 diff weighs a ton!

It will get sorted on Sat when Pc gets down and dirty lol no marathons though I'm affraid
Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
I should have the modified sunp back by the weekend hopefully. Lucky I have a spare one! I didn't fancy taking the engine out tonight lol.
It needs roughly 1.5" taking off the bottom and I used my measuring jugs to work out that i will lose 800ml give or take. That means either side of the sump will require a 400ml wing. Easy for my alloy welder to do.
Tomorrow nights fun includes measuring the prop and fitting the tanks that I have lined with pot15 tank sealer.

Get on with it

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
Nas, How are your mounting your diff bush?
If bolting through the diff and your new bush into the bodyshell, the poly will be doing nothing. It'll be like solid mounting.
This is the bush I used (No. 12).
Diff bolts to the centre of the bush and the body bolt to the outer ring.
