Exhaust O ring (steel)

Hi people,

I have a question I hope someone can help me with, please- the joint between the manifold and the middle box is blowing terribly - I presume that means the steel 'o-ring/ exhaust seal' has broken up?

My problem is that I can't seem to identify what one I need to replace it with - (it's a 1983 316 RHD).

Some parts which purport to be for my car are 52mm outer and 41.7mm inner diamerter and some are 47mm and 57mm. Does 5mm make any difference? Are they different along the exhaust pipe?

I think I need to brace myself for some serious use of penetrating oil - don't have any heat source - worth doing it when the engine/ pipe is hot? Grateful for any advice on that!

ETK does not display a RHD 316, only LHD. And for that car there's only one ring in ETK, 42mm outer, P/N 1118 1 245 960. I can check for your particular car if you give me the last 7 digits of your VIN. Exhaust system is stock?

You can try some p oil and otherwise normally the bolts just break and then they come off as well haha

Hmm- that's quite a bit different - that is very strange that an RHD should have a 10mm larger diameter - seems unnecessary.

Yep, it's stock although.. the centre box is stainless while the rest is mild steel.

I feared that might be the case! Will get some new nuts and bolts ready!

First things first lol

OK my bad, the 42mm ring is for the connection between the center and rear box. For the connection between downpipes and center box it comes up with 47mm only, P/N 1811 1 175 311

47mm it is.

Do you think any 47mm one would fit? Of the correct shape?
