316 - m52b28 / individual+
Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
I did think of that tbh mate. The bush is made of 70shore (pretty soft) and the sleeve in the middle goes though the hole. That means that the basically the diff is cushioned on the poly and the bolt holds it up.
I do realise what your saying. I was thinking the mount was dubious. I see other people have used cotton reel type of bush too.
Misky assured me it'll work. As I have filled my beam bushes there isn't much wiggle and the diff can pivot on the bush. But the rear of the diff mainly is a compression action.
I'm goin to take it round the block once it's running to see how it fairs. My other problem is that I don't know the dimensions of that mount. Would you be able to tell me? I would have to see if Aidy made enough room for it on the plate he put in.

There is another bush that may be better for you No. 13 here:

Under acceleration the rear of the diff will be trying to go down, in your case against the bolt head.
On decceration it will push against the poly.
I'd expect it to start knocking between the poly & bolt quite quickly.

Yea I actually thought of sticking a bush on either side. One under and one above. But that bush looks a lot more slimmer.
Hmm.
Hmm.

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
more has been done, its been really hot and sweaty in my man cave so progress has been a little slower. I spend half the time tidying then fitting stuff back on as for reason my workspace turns into a tip very quickly!
All remaining suspension parts acid etched and painted in plastic/coat or chassis paint.

Fuel tanks fitted and both fuel lines with new clips and brackets, and the front to rear brake line now on the car. no pics of that really cos its not particularly interesting

sump modified for ground clearance - looks ugly but its stock capacity and has a baffled design to stop oil sloshing away from the pickup.

Z3m shifter fitted, its got a nice firm action like a bolt action on a rifle.
I had to weld bolts on the bracket thing that holds it up, would be well awkward trying to do that up otherwise.

got to work on the electronic speedo conversion. a couple of things wrong with this and is not as easy as I initially thought.
1. the speedo is like 1mm too small, so you have to line it up while trying to stop it going through the hole!
2. the back plate which holds it on the e24 / e28 cluster is sticking out a bit more than the stock one
3. the dial fits though and looks factory,
4. the trip can be reset as the lever is exactly in the right place as the stock button
5. i have tried to create a fibreglass plate / housing to mount the whole dial and its gubbins to the binnacle, its an odd shape and my fibreglass effort was so crap I am too ashamed to even show you a picture of it!
my spare dials have red needles for some reason I think they have been painted. i don't know if i want to use red needles it sorta looks odd. i have another cluster with white needles.

I still have loads to do such as the wiring and brake plumbing. Unfortunately I have suffered a big delay on my big disk brake conversion due to the fabricator being far too busy. I am going to have to stick with the wilwoods or think of something else.
Any thoughts or suggestions or questions always welcome.

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
ok so there have been a number of developments.
in typical fast and loud style, I am vastly over budget and also do not a lot of time left.

i did most of this stuff within 5 days - i had enough of a few hours here n there, i decided that it'd best if a took a week off work and do a blitz.
My custom prop arrived, i chose to dump the rubber guibo, i somehow have to change this part every year and in my quest for more power i decided that id get a solid one made up. A few people raised concerns about this, but tbh all i think will happen is ill get a harsher clutch engagement it isnt going to bother me.

the prop is able to expand and contract via a slider mech built into it.

i then did some work on my brakes, i dont know why but i stuck extra bends in the pipe for no reason other than to make them more interesting?!

made my own braided hoses to connect reservoir to masters. obviously due to the sheer ball ache of making lines i was unable to capture the process, until i had finished.

here you go all connected

ordered new Hel lines, maybe got the length a bit too long, but whatever they still fit.

one thing I didnt like is how on the OBP bias box the clutch pedal was is far too close to the brake pedal, so i bent it a bit with the aid of a massive hammer.
then i stuck some richbrook fancy pedals on top to hide the now wonky pedal pad.

filled up the brake system with ATE racing blue brake fluid cos its an odd colour and its supposed to be the business for high temps.
so once i had sorted any leaks i started to refit the interior back in.

assembled my brand new bumpers

I dont have door locks on my doors now so i fitted a universal central locking kit, works brilliant.

in case your wondering my fuse box lives under the dash and so does my ecu.

wiring was relatively straight forwards. i have added extra circuit breakers in as insurance/
random suspension pic, ignore the rusty bolt i have sorted that with a new one now.

I sent the car back to the exhaust place, and thanks to the MR-S owners club doing a group buy on exhaust systems my car ended up being delayed. they modified the front manifold because the angle of the engine has changed which means that it no longer fitted. while it was delayed at the exhaust place i went down there to get the electrical stuff sorted.
Anyway the day it came back I spent all night refitting the body panels / battery box / tidying wiring / double checking everything and then wheeled the car out of the garage and gave it a wash, please excuse the fact that my htc phone has a wank camera.

was going to stick the hella grills on but tbh i might just rock the singles for longer.

I was aiming to make it to retro rides show but i didnt get the car finished. It was so frustrating.
i had a bit of bad luck with my clutch slave cylinder (i think i didnt install it properly the first time? maybe the push rod was missing the arm?) anyway i have fixed it now, just need to make a clutch stop. the clutch pedal is a bit heavier than before. but driving a modern car as a daily has probably made me a bit of a softy.
I havent actually heard the engine run yet, because i have a knackered starter motor. it makes a lot of noise but the solenoid in it doesnt work. that will teach me for trying to save some money by getting a second hand one. i do have a newly refurbished one ready to replace it though,
once that is done then all i have left to do is the steering arms, (they are worn) so i have to change them,
i have ordered a bag type washer bottle to use, and ill put it in the scuttle tray, i was originally going to run a long hose to the boot, changed my mind about that!
thanks for reading!

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
Changed the starter motor and its now turning over nicely.
In typical fashion it didn't start. I say typical because no engine swaI got I have ever done has ever started up the first time!! Turned out I had the +/- wrong way around on the fuel pump.
Gave it a cheeky run up n down my street. It's fassst!
heh.
Tried the brakes and they work ok at speeds over 20mph. It's just at very slow (crawling) speeds the pedal needs a damn good push. But that's the nature of running with no servo. I expect when I got my rx7 brakes finally done this will improve..
Exhaust is loud. I have to take it back to the shop n get them to change the baffling wool in the rear box.
Ahh feels great that i got my car running

Great! Video footage of you misbehaving or is it just the revving I already saw?
