Indicators, wipers fail
Indicators, wipers fail
Hi. New here
At the weekend I bought an 82 320/6 limited edition. I'm not really used to BMW engine codes but am I right in saying this has the M20 engine?
Anyway on my 1 1/2 hr journey home from buying it the indicators and the wipers decided to stop working. And guess what it started to rain too. Quite scary at night, had to drive with my head out of the window so I could see where I was going.
The hazard lights still work.
So I'm guessing that there is a loose wire or contact somewhere behind the steering wheel. I can't figure out how to remove it?

Moving to the tech section. Please note that these are all on fuse Nr 15 (also see http://www.bmwe21.net/?page_id=130 ). Try rolling the fuse, the contact may be oxidated or the fuse blown.

Re: Indicators, wipers fail
Hazards that are claimed to be still working made me guess for the fuse as the hazards are on a different fuse (17).

Wow your absolutely right. It was just poor contact on one of the fuses.
And I had been routing around under the steering wheel looking for a loose earth wire or something.
Thanks

Get used to spinning the fuses on a fortnightly basis! First thing you should for any electrical gremlin. The next culprit is usually the hazard switch. Then bad earth.

Re: Indicators, wipers fail
I also changed the fuse but the problem is not completely solved I'm afraid.
Wipers work perfect but indicators only on the left side. When I want to use the right side it makes a noise like one of the bulbs is broken, which is not the case and indicator signal in my dash doesn't work either. The fuse also tends to burn when I want to use the right side.

Re: Indicators, wipers fail
short circuit in your wiring? indicator stalk can have a loose metal part inside as well causing a short circuit, if the fuse blows that would be my first things to look for...
