Converting to 5x120, who's done it and how?

Post by polov8 »

So I've been looking for wheels I like for a month or two now and it seems the only wheels I like are horrifically expensive, or 5x120, which annoys me!

Also, the big brake options for our cars seem to be crap, and a conversion to 5x120 would open up a wealth of disc options.

So has anybody done it, and what method works best? I'm not interested in hub adapters as those tend to screw up the wheel offsets too much, so being as I'm starting with 316 struts, are there hubs that can be made to fit relatively easily? I have a lathe and I'm not afraid to use it......... 8)

Jason knows what needs to be done but there's also useful info here.

E12 front hubs bolt straight on.. I'm thinking that it maybe easiern to modify the 318ti (compact) / e30 axle to fit on the e21

Front 12 hubs

Rear 5 stud axle fron an e12/e28/e36 the e28&e36 are a touch to wide but an e12 is just about right.

Any rear axle requires to be modifed, but I do have an e12 based setup for sale complete rear axle and front hubs.

Ok, so the front is relatively easy, and the rear just involves remodeling a subframe and making mounts etc... I might leave it 4 stud

In theory there is an easy way to make the rear by turning down some e36 rear hubs, looks like it would work on the bench but never tried it.
