Stereo inspiration please
Right I want a decent stereo in my car not noise just quality I would normally go for 6.5in components up front and a sub what have you guys done and gave you any pics. 6x9s in rear shelf are out of the question.

Re: Stereo inspiration please
Here some inspiration
I have the standard size 4 x 6 inch held for the original looks. Connected to jvc 4x75 rms.
a rca jl audio inverter for directional control, and an active sub of pioneer for the low tones.
It's a nice invisible upgrade, not the highest quality sound but with 4 x 6 inch speaker its good enough.
I prefer to listen to the sound of the 6 cylinder

Kenwood KDC BT60U - You can customise the backlight and button lighting to match the E21 dash (not many have an 'amber' option).

How much hacking of the steel was required to get the 6x9's in the rear shelf?e21-Mark wrote:Classic black Nakamichi head unit, with JBL 6x4 front, 6x9 rears and a slimline Clarion sub under the passenger seat.

nakamichi 45z is high end. 24bit d/a and it gives just such a clean and warm sound. best thing is its not too "modern" looking either, that model was the best one they ever made, proper machined alloy volume knob, it goes up to 50 so you get the perfect volume.
The only problems with them is that the mech wears out after a bit though, but seeing as I plug in AUX its not too much of a matter.
Id not consider anything in my e21 everything else just looks wrong.
I have a 5 channel "cheap" amp, some jbl standard fit in the front wells, and a 50p shaped sony sub and its perfect for my drum n bass soundtrack. I need to improve the midrange though, the problem is the rear shelf can take 6x9's but you have to chop the torsion bars that hold the boot lid open,
Harley trike did a really nice job of making a parcel shelf out of mdf that raised the speakers up a bit, so he didn't have to cut his shelf.
I'm thinking of buying some of those old school bass reflex speakers that go on the rear shelf, gutting them and improving the speakers, then bracing it with Kevlar on the inside.

Re: Stereo inspiration please
I bought some spacers that bring the 6x9's up and give enough clearance. That said, I might just use 6x4's instead as they sound nice enough for my needs. I can blast the Archers out and get the shipping forecast without any distortion.
I think the Nakamichi really suits the e21 interior.

You've never heard of The Archers?
Spacers are like these ones but angled slightly. They're not here so can't tell you part number unfortunately.

Re: Stereo inspiration please
brilliant, that will do nicely, I just then need to stretch some fabric or get them trimmed to match the rest of the shelf.

Re: Stereo inspiration please
That ipod dock is cool. im leaning towards a Beccker Cascade (A mexico would be nice but prices are silly) or hiding a modern Alpine in the glovebox.
