Today I started the car ! Ive been very slowly doing an M42 conversion, and couldnt put it off any longer. I jury rigged a fuel supply, and with a battery perched over the strut top, I gave it a go. Immediate success !! Very loud with no exhaust system, but it runs. This is my first ever adventure into engine management ( im more of a carburettor/distributor guy) so Im utterly delighted WooHoo!

When she got home, the wife swung the driver's door wide open and the door brake finally collapsed. It's been catching and squeaking for months, but I've just opened the door half way. So there she was in the driveway with the door jammed wide open and a thunderstorm bearing down! Quicky whipped the door card off and unbolted the brake to get the door closed.

So the brake is out and it's just the roller shaft bent. Should be able to pop a new one in and have her back in the game.

Thanks, we may do something different next year perhaps, one of the ideas is to do a tour of vintage racetracks in the area (Germany, France, Belgium) like Chimay, Geinne, Reims

New Brembo front brake discs (or rotors as they are called in Aussie), new pads, and a caliper paint job whilst I had it all stripped down. All standard spec parts but massive difference to my braking performance over my old ones. Rear rotors good so just a caliper paint on the rear.

Doing the work I noticed I have a broken handbrake cable so that's next !

FINALLY got my Baur starting and running. Having replaced almost everything that would prevent the car starting, we found a vacuum hose that was suspect. Found a replacement, fitted it and started immediately. That was a week ago. Started every day since. Gaining more confidence every day I drive it. Just small things to do now as it is running very well and the manual conversion is perfect. Need to replace the rear Perspex window so I can see what is behind me and the hazard flasher unit. Also just picked up an e12 M535. What a car! Never sold in Oz but this car was imported in 1987 and been with the same owner until now. She actually bought and used the car while in England working and liked it so much she shipped it back to Oz. I drove it 600km after purchase and can see why she liked it so much. Too many cars for one person to drive (so my wife says) but I will do so as long as I can.

Not really done to the car but I picked up my refurbished M10 head last week - new valves, steam seals, decked and cleaned. Just waiting on the bottom end now! I am determined never to see another M10 pop a head gasket and overheat as long as I live.

Just painted the boot and mounting fuel cell and swirl pot. It's only a 12L tank (with a 2L swirl) but I'm keeping weight to a minimum and sprints and hillclimb aren't too long generally.

Made new axle and rollers for the door brake. Getting it all back together felt a bit like doing key-hole surgery though. Good as new now.
