Dashboard problem, quoting from "top tech topics"

Post by petroscf »

I quote my own reply from pandemonium's topic (about dashboard removing) in the sub section 'top tech'
As I did never get any reply there.
It's a 'burning' issue for me, could anyone (having removed and especially refitted a dashboard) advise?
And, pandemonium, sorry for quoting one of your pics, I think it shows exactly the clip I hopefully have not damaged, but which I surely have to fix

Here is the quote:

as requested, this is how i did it....

there are 2 spring clips in the middle just give it a gentle tug upwards or a gentle pry with a bar and it will pop out.

.....
Good luck and hope this helps

Before some years, I pressed the top of the dash exactly there, over these two spring clips.
( iirc I was using som cockpit spray to make it shiny, god, ever since I regret it!)
I remember hearing a noise like crack or something like that, and since then, knocks are coming from there, in bad roads, or roads with pavers etc.
Nothing seems broken(on top at least, as far as I can see)
It seems to me as if one or both of these clips are out of place, from that moment when I pressed more than I should.

Ideas? Solutions? (Apart from taking out the whole dash....)
Can that just be pressed back in place?

No one? I thought lots of people in there have removed/refitted dashes, no?
I am sure someone could show me a pic of the under face at this exact point.
I would rather avoid taking out the whole dash, but might it be necessary to remove the wind shield?

you don't need to remove the windscreen, but you need to spend a whole day taking it apart. just take your time and don't force anything.

Use any pics you want no problem Petroscf,

The clips on the car look open ended so not sure if they are supposed to be slid in from the interior.
The clips may have went down the side and not in the hole.
my dash is in the garage loft if i can get to it on saturday i will take a picture and post up if i get a chance.

Cheers!
Would be good to have a photo focused on the (rubber, probably?) part of the dash that slips in that metal open clip on the car, in order to understand how this should be refitted in place.
I can always give you my email to send me some pics, however, I guess that a lot of people might be interested in some pics that would complete your interesting technical thread!

Thanks again!
