I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
And another one crops up!!
Now the brakes are seizing on!? I'm pretty sure it's not the calipers, as both the fronts are staying on (not sure about the rears).
The pressure eases after a few minutes, so I'm guessing it is either the servo or the master cylinder.
Which is most likely be?
I've already rung around for a new master and like the clutch master, no one can get them, but eBay shops seem to have them. Can anyone tell me where they got there's?
Cheers, Max

Re: I solve one problem...
I am pretty sure that the dealer has them. Offcourse you want a cheaper solution but brakes are for me not a thing to save money at.
What do you mean that the callipers could not be the problem? When i read your remarke they stay out so blocking the car?

The main dealer can't get a new master. They are on order and will be available in december, by will be £240!
Also I'm starting to think that it might be the callipers?!
I thought it wouldn't be them as I bought the pair as "good second hand"!
I pushed the brake peddle hard, the driver side is sticking on worse, so I loosened one of the pipes from the master to see if it would free up at all.
But it didn't. So my guess would be that it's the caliper? Ant other ideas guys?

Yup, calipers is the most likely option most times. Take them apart and rebuild them, rebuild kits are not expensive at all. In fact, I'd never fit used brakes without a rebuild! Just make sure you got the rebuild kit for the right make. Also see the FAQ section http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=18257

Re: I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
Thanks Jeroen. Was there someone on here who makes the Wilwood fitting bracket?
I'll phone the dealer for an overhaul kit now.

Just rang the dealer. They weren't sure if a overhaul kit did one caliper or both?! But it would be £70 for 2 kits!? Need to ring a motor factors.
Re: I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
"brakes international" might have a rebuild kit for a lot less

Re: I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
Thanks Nas. I'll try ringing them tomorrow.
As I've never overhauled a caliper before, should I just reace the seals?

Re: I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
I just orderd an overhaul kit. Couldnt get them from a local motor factor.
I would be quite interested in upgrading to Wilwoods at some point. Where can I get me hands on a pair of the fitting brackets? And which Wilwoods are people using?

PROGRESS!! (Brake master or servo?)
Big news!!! The seal kits came today! Great service, from the company I order them from.
So I set about the overhaul. Never done it before, but it all went swimmingly! Such a satisfying job. Stripped them down, cleaned them up, fitted the new seals, put them back together, fitting them, and after bleeding I had a good pedal! (Easibleed is ace!)
Took it for a spin round the block, and the brakes are pretty good. The car is still getting a bit hot though, so need to fit the new viscose fan, and see if that helps.

Re: I solve one problem... (Brake master or servo?)
I got them from just doing a google search. The company is called MEV spares. I just looked on their website and couldn't find any e21 parts?!
Tomorrow I'm going to look at the viscose fan.
