Steeringrack solid mounts
I've recently been looking at the massive amount of play in my steering rack. New bushes are needed. Just wondering if there will be any side effects to have it solid mounted to the same points its connected to now. Is there a reason they are rubber mounted? I know polybushes are a lot better than oem. But I can't find a UK supplier. It won't cost me much in design/make, was thinking something on the lines of the picture below. But to fit the e21 rack on the existing mounting. Any help would be great.

Go for it, make me some too. All BMWs after the E21 were bolted direct to the front subframe.

Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
I'll put together a prototype and if it works I'll let you all know.
if there are other people interested in this let me know and I'll keep you informed.

Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
Any update?
Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
Update:
Just got my car back from garage so it's now moted. I've got some 3d models on computer sorted just gotta measure it out properly. Then I'll get a set or two made and make sure there going to be ok.
Cheers

Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
I got my poly bushes from the USA but, because they sent them in a bloody big box and there was import duty, they ended up being way overpriced.
Do you, or anyone else, have the mount/bush dimensions?

Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
I don't have the dimensions but will in a few days. The inside is just a straight bore but the outside is an odd shape that might not be able to reproduce unless you have the standard bushes unmolestered.

Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
Spoke to Supaflex and they're pretty confident that one of the hundreds of bushes they do will fit. It's certainly worth giving them the dimensions anyway.
Re: Steeringrack solid mounts
No worries. I'll see if I can sort the sizes out this week.
