Parts taken without payment

Post by Mobster »

Ok, i know some of you after read the below will think, my fault, my problem but what the hell.

I met a chap through ebay who had been purchasing a lot of parts from me for his blue 320/6 which he was in the process of converting to a 323i. He had made a couple of trips from the Essex area to buy parts off me and always paid cash. Several months ago, he wanted to buy some parts and came to my house one morning very early. He bought some parts but saw some Recaro seats and runners which he wanted. He didn't have enough money with him so I agreed to let him have them and send me the money once he got back. Well, here my problems start. Failed promises after promises and now for a few months I can't even get hold of him. To add insult to injury, the last time he came, I gave him a brand new set of Spax lowering springs free of charge !
When I gave him the seats, he showed me his driving license, I paid no attention to it as the guy had been a really nice chap up until then. How foolish was I !

Anyway, his number is 07401 070771 incase anyone has this number in their phone or know who I am talking about. If the truth be known, I can't even remember his name (shocking I know). He would normally come in a blue Vauxhall Astra who he said belonged to his girl friends mother. I think he came in an Astra van once as well. He was a tradesman, plumber or something.

If anyone knows who I am talking about, make be you can talk some sense into him.

Not in my phone.

You shouldn't trust anyone mate. However it is a small circle it's inevitable that one day you'll come across him again.

Not in my phone. I've not come across a blue 320 in Essex either.

Unfortunately, several people (myself included) have had their fingers burnt in this way. Fortunately though, it's rare. I'm sure he'll come to light eventually. There aren't many 320's in Essex.

Can't you find him via eBay?

Unfortunately not. I had an advert for breaking an e21 and he called me from the advert

I actually went through a period where people ran off with my money. I put down a £150 deposit on a M635 on the understanding that if it wasnt as described, the money would be refunded to me. It much much worse than advised. No deposit returned. Then, i paid £80 deposit to an e21 forum member for a gearbox - guy has disappeared and then this chap from Essex.

Just to restore faith in EBay people I thought I should regale my experiences

I have been buying brass hanging lanterns on Ebay recently

No 1 I got very cheaply - guy was cross he hadn't placed a reserve- then was out of pocket by some £6 for the additional P&P to IOM- which had not been differentiated on listing- so I refunded him the £6 extra.

No 2 was a much more substantial item which cost around £45- but it arrived with 3 panes broken in transit- no insurance and the courier refused to play- so guy offered me 100% refund (since each pane of glass is £19 to replace)
I said keep £5 and send me the rest- which he did

I find dealing through EBay itself helpful- as most are dead keen to add to a 100% satis record etc

I think we all have our cases of burning our fingers. Trusting fellow enthusiasts and every now and then there's someone ready to risk his teeth over a few tenners. Sad, but that's life. You take a risk, but this shows not to take risks over larger amounts of money.

The gearbox issue, is that with a member from this forum? I can remember some issues some time ago... if anyone here messes up I'd like to know, see if I can help and otherwise block this user or warn others...

Never had a problem with anybody on this forum thankfully - although for high value transactions I've insisted on using ebay. The slight increase in price to cover seller fees is always worth it for the peace of mind.

The one time I didn't use ebay, I got sold a lemon of an M10 (from some guy in Scotland via e30zone.net). It took him an age (about three months iirc) to refund me but he did eventually after I sent him pictures of the most carbon choked head you've ever seen and threatened with small claims court!

I'm sorry to bring this up, but I haven't been here for a while and just now logged in and read all the messages. As I understand apparently I ran away with the money? what the hell.

Yup, Mobster reported issues but as you can see that was 2 years ago, and he was removed for causing multiple issues himself. He reported an issue with you (mrd) and we try to investigate any and every reported issue with a forum member as I strongly believe we should be enthusiasts among each other who should be able to trust each other. Knowing who reported the issue and with no further reports, there was no reason for further action. I'd even like to remove this thread entirely.
