Hubs and headlamps

Post by polov8 »

My car has the Big 'n' Little headlamps, and one of the outers has a bit of corrosion on the bottom of the reflector. It's not too bad , and you can't see it in this pic, but it is there:

My question is, are these Bosch H4 lamps unique to the E21 or are they shared with another car. They are the same diameter as mk1 and mk2 Golf lamps but the mountings might be different. Those are easy to get hold of, new or used.

Second question, I read of big and little front bearings, was it only the 323i and 320/6 that used the bigger bearings, and hence would need different hubs? I've got hold of some NOS front struts, part numbers 31311114714 and 31311114715 which I want to completely build up before I fit them to the car, but I'm not sure which bearings and hubs I need to be looking for?

When I look at the RealOEM page for my car (not for these struts which I think are for an earlier car) I see that there are 2 sets of hubs and bearings, the first set seems to match up to the ones for these struts, and the other set is listed as "Tropical version". Is that the 323 variant?

They are the same diameter as mk1 and mk2 Golf lamps and they can be fitted :)
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

bigger bearing hubs needs the matching struts, measure your spindle on the strut and this will define the hub/bearing size
