speedo cluster clear plastic
speedo cluster clear plastic
I have had an idea and to see it through, I need to remove the clear plastic from my spare binnacle.
it looks like its clipped on but im worried if I start trying to lever it off its going to snap. has anyone ever managed to get that clear plastic off without breaking it?

Re: speedo cluster clear plastic
I seem to think it is glued on which makes it difficult to remove.
Maybe try a hot wire or knife to cut the bonding?

Re: speedo cluster clear plastic
I tried on one of my clusters that were already broken, no way to do that without damage. If it would be a modern cluster no problem, but 30 years ago, when they did something, they did it right !
mate, the best thing is to buy another cluster, clean it, change the red foil with clear and assemble it together with your parts. Usually a used cluster goes for 10-15 quid?
If there are some scratches on the clear plastic, use this :

You can get 1mm deep scratches out of the clear without a trace.

Re: speedo cluster clear plastic
By the looks of it, it wasn't installed yet at the time. A few days later...

Re: speedo cluster clear plastic
you see that's an awesome job that's been done there. My idea is rather different but I think I have a solution to the madness.
