Optimal tire size and width for E21(new rear tires question)

just better than the crappy T1R, falken ziex and uniroyal which are the only ones that I can buy new. Looking for Yokohama, continental, dunlop, pirelli...

I found these, just can't find other brands...

I have continental sportcontact 2 on my e21, I had before on my other cars, yokohama A048 and A510,...I guess they removed the dimension from the product line, thats why i'm looking for new old stock.

Had a look here as well but not much left in that size. Perhaps its worth considering moving to 215/40-16? Much more supply including PZero Nero, SportContact2, PS3

currently I fitted the 215/40/16 which I had at home, hankook ventus V12 evo sport (and a few more sporty words)...

I shall remind myself never ever to buy crappy tires EVER ! Car wants to go only sideways in any gear.

Was playing with the thoughts of fitting 225/45/16 Yokohama AD08 (which is the elise/exige dimension), but after this "article"

hello everybody, it's me again in search of optimal grip on a stanced car (rear tires).

the search for 225/40/16 is abandoned as yokohama, continental, michelin aren't making this tyre size anymore.

which would fit my alloys and there would be enough space in the arch.

any hard road / race experiences with this tyre? (duracell, nas,mark,others...)? Again, If they last 3000 km its ok with me, i'm interested only in consistant grip.

I saved them as I was looking for my Hartge which is on 16s- no idea how good they are........

I thought that Toyo 888R do the tyre in 225/40/16? If so they are a known quantity/quality

If I'd put this dimension on my car, I have to raise it, current setup is set that I never scrape on the floor. And the "meat" on the tires eats potholes very well.

I had falkens on the front, never again, oversteer, bu**sh** tires.

225/40/16 new you can only buy (toyo t1r, falken ziex, uniroyal rainsport).

the height difference between 225/40 and 215/45 is minimal. As the 225/45 can't fit under the original arch in no way.

I thought I was going mad, we already had this discussion. I can find the same limited supply for 225/40-16 so 215/45-16 as suggested previously may be the way to go, opens up a lot of possibilities. Don't see any downsides to that either. See the other tread you started on this topic a few weeks ago. Please stick to one thread on a subject.

currently I have Hankook ventus V12 (jada jada a few sporty names) in 215/40/16, in comparision with my old continental SC2, they are only good for a nasty burnout, no grip at all.

so yes, options are :

215/40/16 Michelin PS3
215/40/16 Continental SC2
215/40/16 Pirelli Pzero

215/45/16 Yokohama AD08 (semislick)

this is my bucket list to try on the E21 (but as one pair costs 200 quid or more, it's a pricy bi*** to buy and test the tyres), need some good feedback from other, also if they are driving them on E30 (which is a very similar power/weight).
