Have been looking at DTA S40 as a slightly cheaper alternative too. Mind you, there's still the cost of the loom and any sensors to factor in.

The AEM is similar to the DASTEK Unichip but i think some of the bigger differences are that as well as supporting upt to 6 individual injectors (sequential if the orginal ecu utilised that) it takes over control, whereas the DASTEK modifies the original signal the AEM intercepts the original and then sends it's own dependent on the preloaded feual map. the AEM GUI is quite simple to understand too, i have no experience of the DASTEK GUI.

im also looking at engine management solutions and I think I might go for the link - it plugs and plays with the existing loom so no need to rewire the engine. also has a provision for a MAP sensor,

Sounds ideal. I've actually bitten the bullet and opted for the DTA S60 Pro. http://www.dtafast.co.uk/S_60_PRO.htm Once up and running, it's going down to Paul Sheppard @ Castle Combe for mapping duties.steed wrote:The AEM is similar to the DASTEK Unichip but i think some of the bigger differences are that as well as supporting upt to 6 individual injectors (sequential if the orginal ecu utilised that) it takes over control, whereas the DASTEK modifies the original signal the AEM intercepts the original and then sends it's own dependent on the preloaded fuel map. the AEM GUI is quite simple to understand too, i have no experience of the DASTEK GUI.

Don't you want the s80 as supports 6 cyl and over engines? Correct me if I'm wrong but the site says the s60 is for four coils?
Edit just seen it uses wasted spark

I've got the option of either, but as I know as much about mapping as I do quantum physics, I'll leave it to Paul. He seemed to think even the s40 would be enough for the m52 though.
Been chatting with this chap here - https://www.facebook.com/Olliminium and plan to make use of his fabrication skills for an alloy airbox and intake. Hope to go over this week and do some CAD work. (cardboard aided design) His welding is awesome.

Good folk at DTA sent their S60 Pro ECU which arrived last week. ITB kit is due any day from Jenvey, once their inlet manifolds are ready. We're going to put some miles on the engine / cams using the stock ecu etc, then do some dyno runs for a baseline, before fitting ITB's. Paul Sheppard is doing the mapping down at Circuit Motors nr Castle Combe.

Also opted for the waterless coolant from Evans.

Well all the wheel arch mods were finished and the returns have been put on the arch lip to give some rigidity back to the wings. There is no fouling on the tyres now, even on full lock with the suspension wound right down. Started messing about with various front spoilers too, but it's still either the Ronal or the US spec 320is one that I prefer. Plan to do 2 boot lids. One with Motorsport spoiler and one without.

One of the toughest and longest jobs has been the wiring. Deleted all but the crucial parts of the e36 engine bay loom now and have hidden nearly all of it from view. The ECU will also be hidden where the glove box used to live, with the lid now being a cover for access to the fuse box and ECU serial port.

The newly rebuilt e12 LSD is back in and now runs a 3.45 CWP instead of the original 3.07, which was a little too tall.

We are finally getting close to the end now and the finished car is due to be in a couple of magazines this summer. The fun bit, of fitting all the parts I've been collecting for the past 18 months, can now begin. Moving to Cornwall at end of May and looking forward to putting some miles on it before Retro Rides.

Been fabricating a fuse board (which will be tucked away in the glove box) in readiness for the trimmer coming after the weekend. Finished doing the dynamat and ready for new carpet. I want to remove the cage first though, go that the cage feet and bolts will still be visible. Have also decided to have the Prototipo recovered in alcantara. I need to get the gauges and mounting panel in next.

Once the box is properly trimmed there's an aluminium cover for the fuses.
