I'm going to strip and overhaul (gaskets, seals etc) the engine soon, I just wondered if by chance anyone has already put together a shopping list for such a job? Might save me a lot of time gathering it all together
Thanks in advance.
Hi JeroenJeroen wrote:Gaskets and seals don't exactly make an overhaul, what exactly do you want to do? I wouldn't trust anyone's list, not because I don't trust people but because you might end up with excess parts on one side and lacking parts on the other. Better customize your own list to what you want to do and to your particular engine version as that may call for different parts over the years as well.

If you have the engine out of the car I might take the sump off, take a look and clean it out if there is any sludge in the bottom of the sump
Thanks Keith, I will check all those parts you mentioned. I'll only do anything that actually needs doing, I've found a supplier for the gaskets.... will go from there.e21Keith wrote:Stem seals are a likely failure if they haven't been done before and that would really need the head removing, so a top end gasket set and a sump gasket should see you right.
If the water pump hasn't been done before I'd think about doing that, the thermostat and the cam belt, maybe the seals on the front and rear of the crank. But taking it to bits just out of interest is probably not such a great idea.
