Newbie introduction restoration project

Post by fast1eddy »

Hi everyone, new E21 owner here. I've been a long time BMW fan and have owned an E30, 2 E36s and an E46. Currently I drive an E82 135i as my daily. My son had been looking for an E30 to replace his that was written off last year. I ran across an ad for a 79 320/6 that was midway through a restoration with all the hard bits already done. The owner had been slowly restoring it over the last 18 years. All the rust has been cut out and replaced with oem metal, complete respray, rebuilt engine, transmission , new suspension components with Bilsteins and Bavauto lowering springs. The list goes on. The interior is almost completely gutted. My son and I decided to buy it together and finish it as a father/son project. There is still a lot of re-assembly to be done and I will need a lot of help and advice.
Here's what we've got to work with.

Finally home

Parts pile. There's another one on the other side of the garage just as big.

Brand new wheels and tires. The tires still have the stickers on them.

It's got a lot going for it but like I said, I'll need a lot of help and will be asking a lot of questions, so thanks in advance.

Thanks for the welcome. My last project was a little simpler, basically a cosmetic refreshing.

Turned out nice in the end.

That was relatively easy because I took it apart I knew how it went back together. With boxes of bits and pieces the new project is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
