Are these Recaro seats correct for BMW E21

Post by johnpaulurizar »

Hello All,

I have found a few recaro seats on gumtree, can someone have a look and confirm which ones are correct. They look so similar, but I would like to make sure.

Hi there. The recarros you show are all wrong but the first pic is the closest set. The one made for the e21 have a decal on the slide rails that say made for e21 if you are looking for original ones. If you look in the owners gallery under baur section for 81 in saphire blue I have a good pic of an original set there. But it isn't just the front seats, the back seat is different too. It is moulded in the middle to make it a two seat bench instead of three.

Hello!

Judging solely by the print pattern, none of these appear to be original e21 recaros. That itself isn't a big deal if you're not bothered about originality.

You can then either get some seat rails or modify some existing e21 ones.

Hello guys,

Thanks for the replies. My question, if I am going to reupholster in original material, will you be able to tell?

It seems the recaro on the E21 are LS series, can anyone confirm.

I know the rails are available from

Would like to know your thoughts

Well, if you reupholster them the top pic would be closest because it has the pull out section under the knees but the pull bar is wider on those than the original ones. Could work for most folks unless they are nut cases like us and get anal about it hehehe. To be fair to you, I wouldn't hold it against you for trying. Original seats are hard to get and they ain't cheep! I once asked reccaro to make me a set and they flat out refused. They said only made for BMW and no one else. Id say go for it even if they aren't quite right. The factory seats will have you hanging on to the steering wheel so your but doesn't go out the door in a corner!

Yeah Any recaros are better than the standard E21 seats! If you're not terribly worried about originality, I have a topic in the "Top tech topics" seciton on how to make your own adapters.

Hello All,

I have spoken to few people re recaros seats for my BMW E21 and these seat are available. Can you please confirm if these are correct. The black set look pretty good, however only one base seat has the extension bar. Seller asking $800 and the Seller of the grey blue set asking $1000. I really need advice on which way to go. Look forward to your reply.

Except for the BMW logos and the sticker on the sear rail that says made for the e21, those are as close as you can get without buying an original set. This will only matter to a museum collector. I would be happy with those personaly. But at a £1000.00, I think you can get the real ones for that price. Just have to find somebody that wants to sell them and get there first.
