Early e30 rad.

Post by max »

Hi, is an early e30 rad the same as my 320/6 1982?
I've checked the part numbers and I think they are different. But in the pics and diagrams they look the same. I need a rad, but have zero time to run about and get an aluminium one made.
Cheers, Max

Hi there. I was looking to have my rad rebuilt and I found this guy...Hornet radiators....07860 420751. He has stopped rebuilding but he still has some stock. He doesn't have the e21 320a rad anymore but I think he said he still had some e30 ones. Might be worth a call. He is an old fella but he was very good by me. Even called me back to say he found one but it was for a manual car and appologised for not having the right one. He also told me he was trained by SERCK MOTORSPORT and they may have one. Haven't called them yet. I located the site for you its.....serckservicesmotorsport.co.uk hope that helps.

Me again. Thanks e21mad. I phoned that guy, he has got one but it dames that there's 2 for the 320/6? The one he's got goes up to 1979. (Mines a 1982).
Will it still fit?

Hi there...my parts list shows two different rads. One upto 8/79 and one from 9/79 and up.
Part numbers are...A 17 11 1 120 099 upto 8/79 ( 17111120099 )
A 17 11 1 150 948 9/79 and up ( 17111150948 )

Same here as to the diagram. They don't show a difference fit wise. It could be the difference between the plastic tanked one and the metal tanked one. This is a guess as I have not had the early six cyl (pre 80 one) but I would say physicaly it will fit. The only trouble I can think of is the hose layout ie..if the bottom hose comes straight out the side or is it angled and pointing up. That said I would feel confident I could change a hose or something and get it working. If no one here knows the exact difference, I would say give it a go. You can always send it back. All that aside...C3 has located a German company that has my 81 auto rad. They say a week for delivery and 180.00 pounds. BMW has mine still and they say 290.00 pounds. If I'm not mistaken, he was selling his for 90.00 pounds. I would have taken it if it had my cooler on it for that price.

If anyone searches for this thread in future I can confirm the 4 cyl M10 E21/E30 rads are not interchangeable.
