Did you give it a good kick with your feet and slammed your fists on the dash?
Works for me every time

Good luck on making her start mate, did you check if theres fuel coming in? you can check by lookingin the carb.

I was going to check that now have laptop in car the fuel pump is dry as a bone so checking the filter on the level indicator under the back seat.

Maybe its blocked but a mate said he did that yesterday but I think he lied

Any suggestions welcome.

I cant get the pipe off the carb to see if the pump is pushing out fuel as the wife told me to come in as it was raining like hell !

Anyway sorry about the quality thought the noise may help ?

Well done dave, nice pictures, check the fuel pump, disconnect it from carburettor and turn engine to see if its pumping fuel, but make sure you put the pipe in a bottle, rather than it pissing everywhere... if it does piss out, then were looking at the carb issue cos you did say you checked for spark.... check if the spark is bright enought and that you have a good battery, also another sugestion is to get a spray can, its called (easy start). someone turns the engine and spray at the same time to see if it hesitates to fire up , also do you know if the spark plugs are ok.... always check.... 1.. if theres fuel, 2.. fuel reaching to the carb, 3... ignition, that eliminates firing of the engine, also spray some WD40 around the linkages, open the throttle butterfly to loosen its state... cant see why it shouldnt fire, and if it does and starts.. if it runs lumpy leave it like that, if lumpy like its ready to cut out then obviously rev a little to keep the revs up...leave it for 10 mins this way the car will warm up quicker and also give time for all the crap in the exhaust to free itself... otherwise you get loads of exhaust black smoke particals exiting...... let us know...

I used the brand new battery from the picasso (which is a pain to get out as you have to shift the passenger seat ffs) Will get brand new sparks if the fuel pump works and go from there. Already Wd40'd everywhere I thought you should as my dad has always told me to do so !

Will give her a try tomorrow when I get the pipe off !

Can you see if the carb spays fuel in the chambers? I would think it is an fuel supply issue... Does it start like a normal car would? Also check the distributor cap.

SHE IS ALIVE !!!!!

ALIVE I TELL YOU !!!!

Noisy REALLY NOISY exhaust but engine is purring like a kitten full of fish !

No fuel from pump into carb so:

poured petrol into carb

hit fuel pump with hammer (dont think it did anything really but made me feel more manly

)

turned key for 1 minute and she burst into life !

rev counter does not work (added to 'to-do' list

)

But am a happy man.

Even the missus was dead excited for her.

Now to buy a cheap exhaust

Great news, best of luck with the exhaust - I ended up paying ATS £100 for my new front pipe. There's a load of E21 exhausts on eBay at the moment, so you might have a cheaper option.

I suppose thats cheap enough exhaust to get the car running on 4 wheels passing MOT if needed, then slowly get satinless steel and your sorted!!....

Welcome here, and well done on bringing engine back to life, and saving another E21 from the scrapyard.

I will be very interested to follow your restoration project as I have a similar project on myself at the moment, with a 316 in "dusty green" as you describe it - see: http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2601

Is your green "pusstagrun" (see label on wing under bonnet), looks same as mine. I hope you will keep it, there are enough silvers, greys and reds out there already. My project is on hold at moment, as car is driveable, and funds are strained post-Christmas, but will update thread on my car when anything new happens. Envious of your interior, my front seats are threadbare.

And good to see another E21 from north of Watford Gap (we must have that E21 meet sometime this year).

Will check colour tomorrow probably is the same. I am not sure about the interior to be honest its been stuck away for 14 years so its very clean inside.

Brown and green are not my favourite colous but I will see what happens !

Well... Dr. Frankenstein...

I am glad I was right....

But if the engine turns like is seen on the vid, there is not much more, except from the ignition, that could go wrong with these cars. They are almost bullit-proof

For security reasons I would replace the fuelpump... You'll never know.
