81' 320i w/M10 5speed. What exactly do I have?

Post by Dutchman22 »

As the title states I know what I have is an 1981 320i saloon US Spec, with either the 1.8 or 2.0 M10 and 5speed. Although a friend stopped by and showed me I have original BBS wheels 4x100 et30s 15x6.5, Leather Recaro seats, and the BBS Front Valance. Do I posses a special edition or did the previous owner just happen to throw these things on the car? I have attached pictures of the wheels and car below. https://www.flickr.com/photos/128290445@N03/

First of all: welcome here! Even though it does have some nice options it is indeed a standerd E21. Which doesn't mean that much as there weren't real special versions that are worth a huge premium anyway. The sporty US 320iS or one of the European Editions are nice, but not worth a lot more than a standard car with the same options added.

THe BBS deep front spoiler and the leather Recaro's probably are original options, the alloys are from the E21's successor the E30. Looks like they even have a 1990 production date stamped in.

As of late 1979 the US 320i(S) had the same M10B18 1766cc engine as the Euro 318i, but with 02 sensor added. Most likely that 1.8 litre lump is in your car then.
