315 (03/1983) Getrag 5-speed gearbox

Hello everyone,

I have 5 speed economy gearbox on my 315 (03/1983). I noticed - when shift form 4th gear to 5th gear at around 2000 - 2500 RPM there was some noise and high vibration in gearbox in 5th gear. When the engine goes to 3000RPM it disappears...

Furthermore, when the vehicle are staying, when release clutch pedal, there was also some little noise from gearbox...

What it could be - Gearbox bearings?

Any experience, suggestion?

I'm no expert, but could be that your driveshaft is unbalanced or the flex disc needs replacing.

The other sound is more than likely your clutch release bearing.

Agree on the clutch release bearing, pretty common and harmless. As for the vibration: does that only occur in that situation? Try to find out of it is
- gear
- rev
- speed
related. Must be one of those!

That's occur only in 5th gear, immidiatelly after shifting from 4th to 5th gear, at about 70-80kmH (2000-2500rpm)

I'd try to renew the oil one day but if it's not loud I wouldn't bother. BTW always loosen the upper (fill) nut before removing the bottom one. Just to prevent the upper one won't come off and you're stuck with an empty box...
