Which Coolant do you use?

Post by davidvincent »

Hi all

General query, out of interest... which coolant do you use?

I have a new aluminium after-market rad, and the packaging recommended the bright pink stuff, would you agree?

Cheers
Dave

Yes, that's fine. I use Evans waterless coolant which is another alternative.

I was always told to use the old school coolant, translated the basis of some studies we did on the subject on the Dutch forum in the FAQ section:

I was severely told off by Kenny Coleman the best Chev engine builder in Europe after he freshened my Chev race engine in 2010- he told me NEVER again to use Water wetter

apparently it has a lot of acid in it! I was using it in Sunny South Africa

ps he knows what he is talking about as this race engine was originally built in 2000 and has has 5 yearly refreshes (and nearly 600 bhp!) since

Things have moved on a bit since Water Wetter I think Tim. Rollcentre/Mosler Europe use Evans in their LS7 Moslers and have had no problems in the past 2 or 3 seasons.

It is flammable though, and very slippery if spilt (added to which it doesn't evaporate). So you do need to be careful with it and make sure your hoses etc are in good condition, as were it to leak onto a hot manifold, it could catch fire. That said, so could your fuel.
