Wiring in a Headunit

Post by Eddie. »

Hi all,

I'm wiring up my headunit this weekend, where is the best power source?

Switched or permanent live?

I think initially we looked at using the hazard switch, but I've since been warned against messing with the hazard switch at all.

Thanks,

There should be a dedicated radio cable set on top of the gearbox tunnel with permanent and switched wires. I'd go for switched so you will never forget (if the volume is at zero there's little to remind you to turn it off perhaps, but your battery will be empty in 1-2 days). Unless you use a digital unit, these usually required both switched and permanent (the latter to retain memory settings).

I've heard about these radio cables, but mine doesn't appear to have them, I checked when I looked last time.
