Indicator Issues

Post by jamiew »

Hi guys,

First issue with the e21!! :(

right so my indicators have stopped working out of the blue, not just one but both, the light or 'click' is absent from the cluster.

I was hoping this could be a fuse issue, but after looking at the info on here, the indicators horns and wipers are together on the same fuse.
However my horn and wipers are working correctly.

Any suggestions as to where i could look next, maybe a broken switch at the end of the indicator stalk?

Could be an issue with the stalk, but it's most likely to be related to the hazard light switch. Is that in place and functioning correctly? If you disconnect it or if it's broken the indicators might not work either. Also note that the hazard lights are fused separately, check the fuse, also for corrosion!

There are a few related topics in the FAQ section as well as the Top Tech Topics, too.

Now you mention it, yes my hazard lights have stopped working.

so first would be to check the fuse for the hazard lights, and this could fix the indicator issue as-well?

thanks for the reply

Yup, they both control the operation of the indicators (basically, the indicators are controlled through the hazard circuitry)

Ok thankyou.

however i am now a little confused as this page states that the indicators are on the same circuitry as wiper sprinkers and electric mirrors: http://www.bmwe21.net/?page_id=130

Also there is no mention of the hazard switch

Fuse no. Amps Item(s)

15 16 horn, indicators, all wipers & sprinklers, electric mirrors

Sounds like yet another faulty flasher relay.

They seem to go by the dozen.
