Weber 38 DGAS/ DGES feedback, are they a good upgrade?

Post by Mucka »

Hi,

I'm looking for some feedback from people who have fitted or used a weber dgas/dges 38 carb upgrade on their 320/6

Are they any good or better than the standard carb?
How was the car after fitting?

Thanks

Believe several people here did this conversion including Thegs. From what I've read it makes the car both more lively and more economical compared to the average tired 4A1.

Thanks, mine has a flat spot when I accelerate quickly, I'm just debating a carb upgrade or a 325 conversion.

As Jeroen said, I did this upgrade a couple of years ago on my 320/6. Can only recommend this upgrade to every 320/6 owner. Swap is straight forward, adjusting the Weber carb is much, much easier than the Solex. The upgrade gives the car more power and feel, the flat spot is gone immediately and the economy is also better. If you ask me this is the best bang for buck, upgrade cost around 400 euro for a complete set with rebuild carb. I made two movies after fitting the carb.

Since this car past on after a couple of years I sold my Weber to Jan, which I fitted together with a rebuild cylinder head and stainless steel manifold. This car came to life even more.

If you have any more questions about the upgrade, feel free to ask.

That is great info thegs, were you and to use the original air filter and box?

Did you have to change much with the accelerator cable or linkages to?

It defiantly revs a lot better. Do you know what jets came with your carb?
Thanks for the info

I bought the complete kit, which means you can use the original intake, throttle cable and air filter setup. Only thing you need to add is a manual choke cable which was included in my kit. I ran the carb on the standard jet which was included, I can't tell you the size of this.

Great I am looking at the auto choke version, I read on here that their weber with the original airbox hit on the top of the bonnet.

I've studied those first 2 movies a little, but it seems the speedometer is way out of range. at least 20km/h to high at 100km/h.
In the first movie you hit 140kmh in thirth gear @ 5200rpm, with the 3.64 diff the actual speed @ 5200rpm would be 117km/h
and 160km/h @ 4500rpm, actual speed in fourth @4500rpm vvould be 134km/h.

Was this car modified?

For sure the speedo, as it is cable driven en the sprocket behind the clock is gone it move around 20 km/h. So don't look at the speedo but listen to the silky smooth inline six

If you grab the Redline kit it will include all the adapters for fitting the Weber to an 320/6 including the stock air filter assembly. I see in the picture it also has an auto choke, mine came with a manual choke and cable, but it may have been a different carb.
