I am looking to see if anyone can help me out with a quick question regarding the E21 323i radiator. I have made the decision to use a E21 323i radiator for my M20 swap and before I order one I would like to get some feedback to make sure there is no significant difference. The early model E21 323i cars came with a radiator that has two upper mounting tabs and the lower outlet stubs out parallel to the radiator. In addition, the early model lower radiator hose is two pieced and has a "temp sending unit" between them. The later E21 323i radiator is different than the early version. The late model E21 323i radiators use a single upper mount, the lower outlet stubs out at an angle, and the lower radiator hose is one piece which deletes the "temp sender unit".
Contrary to the pictures I have seen on 2002 forums, I am leaning towards the early version radiator since the lower outlet stub would allow for better clearance, plus using the early radiator and lower hose assembly provides a spot to plug in the electric fan wiring harness. I have linked the two radiator for reference.
Any feedback or additional information for determining the correct radiator would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: E21 323i Radiator/2002 M20 Swap
All as correct as can be! And the radiator and hose assembly have been NLA for ages but they appear to be available again. Additionally it may be good to check what solutions were implemented in 02-land perhaps? You can search for a few users here that are likely to know, perhaps users loentje or Mich?

Re: E21 323i Radiator/2002 M20 Swap
Thanks. Most guys in 02-land have started using a VW radiator but that involves slicing hoses and more cutting. I am trying to make it look as factory as I can thus the 323i radiator. I'll hold off ordering one for a few more days. Almost all the M20 2002 that I have seen online use the later one but that may have been because the early radiator was NLA. Thank again for the confirmation.
