Windscreen washer on stalk

My windscreen washer has been on a switch on the dash since I owned it and not activated by pulling the stalk back,
there appears to be no wiring to trace in the bay so my plan is to take the wires going to the current switch and solder them to the right place on the stalk,
my question is where do I join them to on the stalk wiring.
ive tried just linking it to some bits of the stalk and it will spray when on slow wipe or fastest but not on the pull back the pull back does turn on the wipers intermittently so everything is working just no washer
