Exterior Door Handle

Post by Bigmeat »

The outside handle on the passenger side has not been working for a while now.
I took off the door card and it turns out that the handle was behind the latch that triggers the door opening.
After lots of faff I finally got it into place and working perfectly.
So I put it all back together, really pleased with myself for a job well done.

Then I thought I'd check that the lock worked okay.
I closed the door, pushed the lock button down and tried the indside handle. lock button popped up and the door opened okay.

So then I pushed the button and tried the exterior handle.
maybe you can guess what happened?
A click and now the handle doesn't work again...

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem before I take it all apart again? I know it's not a major job but for me it's taken all day. I get tired very easily and can only really use one arm properly so even little jobs like this become a big headache for me.

Thanks
Al

Hey Al,

I've had the same problem. In my case it was the left back door (E12) . I think they used the same door lock mechanism on all models, so you might have the same problem.
In my case it was a broken spring in the door lock mechanism.
Had to replace the whole mechanism
