houston, we have a problem.

I have H&R rear springs

http://www.ebay.de/itm/2x-H-R-Federn-HA ... 0715015540

And Bilstein B6

on road tires, everything ok, on semislicks, when they are hot, starts and shift 1,2,3 gear, rear of the car goes down almost to the floor.

Are there any harder springs that would fit a E21 ? I'll try with bumpstops for now, but its a temporary solution.

I could park the car so that I seen where is the problem, during shifting at the rev limit or on hard start, the wheel goes even higher up...which is really not pleasant :mrgreen:

any solution? harder springs? which ones to buy?

My 327i was running on bilstein B6 and eibach springs, 15inch Alpinas and it was sitting low but not this low. Not even when pulling away fast.

I think you need to test the shocks if the're alright and indeed use harder spings, like the eibach. But to begin with, just check your present gear, because this is not normal. HR is reasonably good stuff.

Trailing arm suspension is about as bad as it gets for squat under hard acceleration. Just be careful not to go too hard at the rear or you'll find yourself in a ditch when you get to the corners!

The shocks were tested a week ago, everything ok. Springs ok.

I had on the M20B20 setup some hard springs for 50€...and I do remember, had no feedback from the rear, only when it was too late.

I got an answer from H&R, direct translation from German : The 29531 springs are only a small ammount harder than the regular springs so they are not useable for track use. We are not making SuperSport and Race springs for the E21.


so yes, I'm looking for springs that would fit the rear of my E21. I wrote to Spax, Eibach are the only option for now...

I put coilover sleeves on the B6, so the height is adjustable. I dont want to go again all the way with new suspension, as the handling is what I was looking for. Just the rear rebound is mad, but it's understandable as I got the answer from H&R about the so called "Sport" springs. Lesson learned, not for race use :)

Helper springs or a dual spring package for the coilovers?

well this brainstorming made some progress...the tennisball idea got my attention in the right way...

This will be the last try before trying out another rear suspension, as I dont need a enormous improvement, just a few cm less rebound.

What a spring rubber actually does is connect the coils to coils in the springs, which drives the spring rate up and makes it stiffer.

Find a damper specialist first, and make the dampers stiffer, my experience is that the factory is not too hard. Ask a Bilstein specialist (if you have) what you want. And maybe a camber and toe kit would be great. That rubber between the threads I think is dangerous. Lose the sudden suspension travel, and will be out of control of the car.

Agree, that's what I learned from Dutch specialists Intrax as well. Anything interfering with the springs like these rings, or too large bump stops of any kind are outright dangerous. Did try something similar on my E36 M3 as well. When do these interfere most? When you need all you've got from your suspension. But at that point this just shuts off your suspension and makes it uncontrollable. Death trap.
