ignition switch help needed

Post by chef0625 »

I am trying to replace the ignition switch. I have the anti-theft plate and bolts removed; I have the set screw on the electrical end removed; but I still can not get the barrel out of the steering column housing; nor can I get enough room to remove the electrical end plug. Is there something I am missing?

1983 E21 "s" model with Recaro seats, LSD, and big sway bars.

You have to remove that upper steering column housing before steering lock can be pulled out from it.

SUCCESS!!! Thank you again 3771489! The plastic housing on the electrical side was cracked and would flex just enough not to make contact when you turned the key. I replaced the security bolts with Allen heads.
