crankshaft bearing

Post by jacquesw »

Hello BMW friends,

I have the following issue with my BMW 323I, 1978.
When the car is running stationary, and I press the clutch, there is a rattling noise.
Gearbox is overhold, and also a new clutch plate and pressure group. So normaly you would suspect, it is the bearing of the pressure group, but it is not.
So I think that it is the crankshaft bearing. Before I am going further, I want to ask you if you have any experiance with this?

Kind regards, Jacques (Netherlands)

So when the car is idling in neutral, there is no rattle? If that's the case, it doesn't sound like a crankshaft bearing.

Clutch release bearing, a common problem with any car with a manual transmission and probably one of the most overlooked parts for replacement as it is not normally supplied with a clutch/pressure plate kit and is not part of the gearbox. It is component number 4 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=21_0066. The second most overlooked part for replacement would have to be the pilot bearing in the back of the flywheel, components 2 to 6 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=11_0289

It makes the noice when you press the clutch, if it is in gear or not.
Dutch: probleem is, alles is vervangen. Bak gereviseerd, koppeling en drukgroep en als ik de koppeling in trap bij normaal stationair lopen hoor je een lichte rammel, wat niet goed is.

It is the clutch release bearing - it only operates when the clutch is pressed, whether the car is in gear or not.
Dutch: Het is het druklager - het werkt alleen wanneer de koppeling wordt ingedrukt, of de auto in de versnelling of niet.
