Switched Live - wiring help

Post by Eddie. »

I need a switched live for my radio, coolant temp gauge and anything else I might want to add in the future. At the moment I've taken it off the horn, but that means when I push the horn, it cuts the radio?

Anyway, where is best to take power from a switched live? I was thinking about directly off the barrel, then running it to a fuse, then to the accessory I'm using. Is there somewhere better to do this?

Essentially I want a new circuit, but want it to be a switched live.

The wires from the ignition switch go to a connector block under the drivers kick panel. You can splice in there.

Original radio wires should have had a switched live, or did your car not have a radio originally and thus no wires?

Yeah as you said, I had no original radio. Okay so if I splice off the connector block, that won't be on a circuit anywhere? It will be in effect, a new circuit?

I wouldn't get it straight from there. Why not do a proper job and activate one of the likely spares inside the fuse box?
