hello
1979 E21 will not turn over as the starter motor is just clicking. I am assuming it is the solonoid?? There appears to be 3 screws holding it onto the starter motor. Can you buy the solonoid seperate?

If you hear a pretty loud tick it is likely to be the solenoid being operated, but the motor not engaging. Usually that means there's not enough power due to a bad battery or bad wiring connection (ground strap, wires on battery and starter motor). I'd check these first. Did this start all of a sudden or after work was performed?
