popping on over run .

Dear all,

I have a noise!! I dont think it's a problem, but I would like some re-assurance. The sound occurs only on the over run, its sounds like pop corn in the exhaust, or someone pinging elastic bands!! My guess would be a leaky exhuast manifold or hole somewhere in the exhaust system. Maybe a carb issue?

The car is on axle stands at the moment so I can't record the actual cars noise. (1977 316) However I found the exact same noise in this video (minus the V12 song). You can hear the noise @1:17 and @3:02.

It's probably just unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I'd say you need a tune up.

Have a listen to this one. This is my m10 running way too rich.

I'd say a combination of factors, none of which is something to worry about:
- richer fuel mixture (better than running lean!)
- perhaps exhaust coming at age as well thus doing less damping

mine does this is well, especially when pushed hard, and I love it!

Thanks gents! I'll carry on enjoying the noise in that case! Full engine service and tune up is in line after the brake service!
