Pictures Requested* Lowering an E21, shocks and what not

Post by Kpeters »

Hey guys.

Finally decided to lower my E21 I have a friend which has a set of used H&R springs which he says will lower it about 2" about 6cm.

So a couple of questions...

-Will my BOGE shocks be ok with this?
-Will the camber be completely screwed up hence requiring camber adjusting plates?

Also anyone with pics of E21's lowered 2 inches? I don't want it too look too low.

Thanks!

Personally, I think the -60mm springs are just about perfect for an E21. Your standard shocks will be OK for a bit (assuming they're in good nick to start with?) but you'd be better off getting some uprated ones from Spax, Koni etc. Quite a few people have run lowered springs with their stock shocks though.

Yes, negative camber will be increased on the rear but it's not so excessive as to cause you problems. In an ideal world you could de camber the rear but it's not crucial. Again, lots of folk lower their 21 without giving the camber a second though. It will also help your tyres not to foul the arches!

This was my 323 wearing Spax -60 kit including shocks.

That car looks nice!

I think it may drop 2" because the spring must be a bit tired from old age. My BOGE shocks have like 1500km on them they are basically new and I'd hate destroying them with the new suspension. I don't use the car too much though just around the neighborhood probably less than 2000km a year unless I take it on trips.

For road driving, I much prefer a -45mm drop. I've spent significant time driving E21's as a daily with both -45mm and -60mm. The latter meant I had to be really careful over speedbumps etc. I destroyed a brand new centre box on the -60mm. Admittedly, the shocks, springs and bushes on the -60mm car were all knackered so may have compounded the issue.

My Baur on Spax -40

This set up replaced what turned out to be H&R's which are -40 too.
