Have I done something wrong ?

Post by healeyneil »

As per the photo Image
the front wheel is rubbing on the valance slightly. Suspension has been completely rebuilt, definately no accident damage. It has been lowerered a bit ( 40mm I think) Do I just need to trim the valance a bit ?
Cheers, Neil

I believe we had seen something like that before. When i'am thinking right it was the combination of type 1 and type 2 suspensionparts.

yes, difference is in wishbones (control arms) early vs late.
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

So does that mean the wheels are pushed forward a bit ? Im trying to figure if it will cause a handling problem. I will have altered the castor angle. Im trying to think whether that will increase or decrease the self centreing. I'll need to look up some books ! ( Trimming the valance is easy, but I dont want to do that if I have to go back several steps where the suspension is concerned)

The more castor you have the more self centering and the heavier the steering. as the suspension compresses the arc that the ARB moves in willtry and move the wheel forward, or at least counter act any motion of the wheel rearward, and run the risk of making a mess of your arches. Best to find the right suspension bits if you can. What parts are on there now?

I bought new wishbones which were early ones - then struggled to get poly bushes to fit, eventually getting ones from Eurometric. Didnt realise that early and late wishbones had different geometry. B*st*rd !!
